RO + DI technologies

The two technologies that produce ultrapure water.

At Hydrosphère Innovation, we use two complementary technologies—reverse osmosis (RO) and deionization (DI)—to transform any water into ultra-pure, residue-free water.

Why combine two technologies?

On their own, none of them is perfect, but when used together, they remove 99.99% of impurities.

Step 1 | RO - Reverse Osmosis

Mass elimination

RO is your first line of defense. It uses a pressurized semipermeable membrane to remove contaminants before they become a problem.

How does it work?

The feed water passes through a RO membrane under high pressure (4–15 bar); 99% of the total dissolved solids (TDS), salts, minerals, and ions are then rejected, so that only 15% to 30% of the water passes through, while the rest flows out as wastewater.

Step 2 | DI - Deionization

The Ultimate Perfection

After RO filtration, 1% to 10% of dissolved ions—invisible to the naked eye—remain. This is where DI technology comes into play.

How does it work?

Deionization uses an ion-exchange resin that captures the remaining mineral ions that RO filtration has allowed to pass through, just as a magnet attracts metals.

Result when using DI alone | Water that is ionically ultra-pure, but does not filter out physical particles. Use only if the water has already been pre-filtered.
